This piece of fragrance art is a reinterpretation of the iconic Hypnitc Poison by Dior, a scent that accompanied my sister and me for many years before its formular was fundamentally altered. Based on the original composition of vanilla, sandalwood, bitter almond, coconut and plum, the fragrance introduces unexpected elements such as black pepper and an ashtray accord. These additions create a subtle smoky tension, shifting the scent beyond conventional notions of beauty and feminitity.
The work explores the relationship between attraction and discomfort, familiarty and transformation. What appears unpleasant in isolation becomes an integral part of a harmonious whole.
Two additional layers, Day Tune and Night Tune, allow the fragrance to be continously modified, emphasizing either its ligher or darker facets and creating a scent that can be retuned each day.
The olfactory art work was exhibited in Volatile Derivates at the Olfactory Art Keller, New York, as part of an exploration of scent as an artistic medium.
The series Dream on Dream combines photography, threads, and scent into a multisensory, transmedia artwork. By incorporating smell, the work opens up an additional layer of perception in an overwhelmingly visual contemporary culture.
The fragrance is attached to the back of the image within a special device, allowing it to be re-scented repeatedly. The embedded threads absorb the scent and continuously release it into the surrounding space.
The composition consists of palo santo, frankincense, sage, lavender, basil, salt, and sandalwood – essences traditionally used in cleansing and ritual practices.
Dream on Dream creates an artistic experience that engages all the senses. The title refers to an ongoing process of transformation and renewal, similar to a dream state in which the unconscious becomes visible and change becomes possible.
The work invites viewers to embark on a journey of inner cleansing and transformation.
Aromas expand the artists consciousness. They give her courage to follow her heart, to live her dreams and to cross boundaries – they are like a protective cape that carries, supports and transforms her.
The artists fragrance self is composed of ginger, green anise, orchid, violet, vanilla, frankincense and myrrh. Ginger stands for energy and drive. Anise holds strength and structure. Orchid supports wise decisions. Violet is delicate yet intense. Vanilla wraps her in softness and love. Myrrh opens inner freedom, while frankincense brings clarity and strengthens holistic confidence.
The self portrait consists of three parts, because she is not the same every day. On some days she is light, breezy and extroverted. Airy notes like violet, orchid and anise dominate. She feels open, energetic and bright. On other days Eva turns inward, becomes quiet, reflective and grounded. Frankincense, vanilla and myrrh come forward, guiding her into stillness and inner strength.
The bottle with the purple dot holds the complete scent self-portrait – all facets combined. The pink bottle expresses her outward, joyful presence. The blue bottle reveals her introspective, quiet side.
This multisensory artwork was featured in the exhibition Portraits in Scent at the Olfactory Art Keller in New York. The artist created this work as an invitation to explore shifting identities through scent – playful and intuitive.
